BSO Case Number: 11-1806-007240
Jurisdiction: Pompano Beach
Place of Occurrence: Near 1200 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Pompano Beach
Pedestrian(s): William Chase, 23, male, 8/20/94, At-large in Pompano Beach (DECEASED)
Broward Sheriff's Office detectives have identified the man who was fatally struck Tuesday by a passenger train in Pompano Beach. William Chase apparently walked around a train safety gate that had its bells and lights activated and into the train's path.
Around 10:30 a.m. June 26, Chase was headed east on the southside sidewalk near 1200 Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard. The passenger train was headed north when witnesses say Chase ignored the safety measures, walked on the tracks and was struck by the passenger train.
The train's engineer was unaware of the crash and continued on his route into Palm Beach County. He was later notified and cooperated with BSO's Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit's investigation.
THI detectives have determined that the incident is non-criminal.
