BEACH DAY ENDS IN TRAGEDY FOR TRAVELER

Description of Incident:

A Tuesday afternoon swim at the beach turned deadly for a man visiting from France.

Ruben Verdie was in the ocean with a friend on Oct. 10 in Pompano Beach when the two became separated. The friend looked for Verdie and shortly afterward found him being pushed to shore by a wave.

Broward Sheriff Office deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded around 1:40 p.m. to 200 Briny Ave. Verdie was transported to Broward Health Imperial Point where he was pronounced dead.

BSO’s homicide unit also responded. Foul play isn’t suspected as the death investigation continues.
