Description of Incident:

On Veterans Day, a pedestrian was fatally struck while crossing a major road in Oakland Park. Broward Sheriff's Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating the crash that happened just before 6 p.m. Nov. 11 in the 3400 block of Northwest Ninth Avenue.

Margaret Brigonti, 52, was pushing a wheelchair across Northwest Ninth Avenue when a southbound vehicle, driven by Greta Schel, 86, struck her. A witness provided aid to Brigonti until Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded and took her to Broward Health Medical Center. Brigonti was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Schel, who detectives said didn't appear impaired, remained at the scene. According to Traffic Homicide Investigation detectives, Brigonti wasn't crossing at an intersection or in a crosswalk.
