The suspect tried to be stealthy when he broke into a car in Lauderdale Lakes. Fortunately, he wasn't able to skirt a surveillance camera.

Now, Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are releasing the video in the hopes that someone can name the thief.

Around 7:10 a.m. May 3, the suspect arrived at First Church of the Open Bible Pre-School, 4767 N.W. 24th Court, in silver Chevrolet Equinox. He stepped out of the SUV and took a quick look around before he smashed his way into the passenger side window of a parked Mercedes-Benz E500. Then off he went with the victim's purse, which held credit cards and cash.

The suspect has a medium build and is about 5 feet 6 inches tall. He wore a black knit cap, a white T-shirt, a gray jogging suit and red sneakers.

Detectives suspect that the same person is responsible for a car burglary that happened three days later on May 6 in Tamarac. In that case, a purse was stolen from a Fiat 500 at Boston Market, 5815 N. University Drive.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Broward Sheriff's Office Lauderdale Lakes Detective Wilson DeJesus at 954-321-4857.
