PURSES LEFT IN CAR PROVE TOO MUCH TEMPTATION FOR AN OPPORTUNISTIC THIEF

Date: Nov. 1, 2017                                                        PIO Number: 17-11-1

A family's park outing was ruined when a burglar spotted the purses they left inside their car. One of the victim's stolen cards was used the same day in a Lauderhill store and a gas station in Fort Lauderdale. Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating the theft.

On the afternoon of August 29, a mom, grandmother and baby went for their usual stroll at Peace Mound Park at 1300 Three Village Road in Weston. The two women expected to be gone no more than 10 minutes, so they decided to leave their purses and a diaper bag in the car. When they returned, a burglar had smashed the car window and stolen their two purses containing cash, credit cards and two cell phones.

A few hours after the theft, the victim's card was used at Sunshine Gasoline located at 5801 North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. Soon after, the card was used again at Target at 7730 West Commercial Boulevard, Lauderhill, but this time the user was caught by security cameras.

The subject is described as a tall man with a stocky build. He had a dark complexion, a full beard and short dark hair. He wore a long-sleeve black T-shirt, red athletic shorts and athletic shoes.
