Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating a fatal collision between a pedestrian and a Tri-Rail train in Pompano Beach. This morning, a man apparently walked around a train safety gate that had its bells and lights activated and into the train's path.

Around 10:30 a.m. June 26, the man was headed east on the southside sidewalk near 1200 Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard.  The passenger train was headed north when witnesses say the man ignored the safety measures, walked on the tracks and was struck by the passenger train.

The train's engineer was unaware of the crash and continued on his route into Palm Beach County. He was later notified and cooperated with BSO's Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit's investigation. THI detectives are working to positively identify the pedestrian.

Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to contact THI Det. Michael Wiley at 954-321-4205.
