An attentive Broward Sheriff's Office deputy spotted a suspicious vehicle roaming near two Cooper City schools around the end of the school day. His keen eye helped nab a man who admitted that he was pleasuring himself while looking at the children.

On Monday, Jan. 29, an undercover detective patrolling the area of Southwest 90th Avenue noticed a light green 2003 Nissan Altima driving near the area of Cooper City Elementary and Pioneer Middle schools. Initially he thought the vehicle was that of a parent waiting to pick up a student, but once students were released, he observed the man driving slowly and stopping near areas where children were gathered playing.

Investigators stopped the suspicious vehicle to investigate further. The driver, Jesus Acanda, 54, was observed to have his pants unbuttoned, and he discarded some tissue paper out the window as deputies approached. Acanda provided varying stories as to why he was in the area; he was not there to pick up a student from school and does not live in Cooper City or even Broward County. After being taken into custody and waiving his Miranda rights, Acanda admitted that he was masturbating while watching the children. A teletype check revealed he's been arrested in the past for lewd and lascivious behavior and indecent exposure near schools.

Detectives want to know if Acanda victimized any children. Anyone with information regarding Jesus Acanda's activities is asked to contact BSO Detective Glenn Gainey at 954-432-9000. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at
