Description of Incident:

Traffic homicide detectives are investigating two deadly crashes from May 31. In each case, failure to maintain control of the vehicle is considered a primary factor.

Just after 8:30 a.m., Matthew J. Scully was driving a 2003 Honda Accord southbound on Rock Island Road in Tamarac. Scully was traveling above the posted 40 mph speed limit. For an unknown reason, Scully lost control of his vehicle, struck the raised curb and rotated clockwise where it collided with a concrete light pole.

The impact caused severe damage to the driver's side as it wrapped around the pole. Scully was pronounced dead at the scene. Excessive speed, failure to maintain control of the vehicle and suspected impairment are all considered factors in this case.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. Kristina Garcia was driving a 2002 Toyota Tacoma Pickup eastbound on S.W. 10th Street in the 4600 block in Deerfield Beach when it struck the inside raised curb. Garcia's car then crossed the center grass median and struck a storm drain.

Elaine Gallman was driving a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder westbound on S.W. 10th Street when Garcia's car entered her car's path while airborne. BSO Fire Rescue extricated Gallman and her passenger and transported them to Broward Health North for treatment.

The preliminary cause of the crash at this time appears to be Garcia's inability to remain in control of her truck.
