Description of Incident:

A 69-year-old man was killed when his car collided with a Publix semitrailer on Saturday in a Weston intersection. Broward Sheriff's Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating the fatal crash.

Around 3:54 p.m. March 3, the truck was headed east in the outside lane of Indian Trace Road and the Lexus ES 350 was headed south in the inside lane of Town Center Boulevard. Both vehicles were in the intersection when the semitrailer struck the car's passenger side.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded and transported Alberto Olivares-Perez to Broward Health Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 48-year-old truck driver remained on scene and didn't report any injuries.

According to Traffic Homicide Investigation detectives, the truck driver started to brake in an effort to avoid the crash. There weren't any indications, detectives said, that the other driver tried to stop.

Excessive speed is not considered to be a contributing factor. The investigation continues.
