Description of Incident:

The investigation continues into the fatal deputy-involved crash that occurred shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday in Pompano Beach.

Based on the preliminary investigation by Broward Sheriff's Office traffic homicide detectives, Deputy Sean Reyka was traveling north in the 1400 block of North Dixie Highway when, for circumstances that remain under investigation, he struck and killed a bicyclist. The bicyclist has been identified as 60-year-old John Mancini.

At the request of Sheriff Scott Israel, the Florida Highway Patrol will investigate the circumstances that led up to the crash.

"I recognize that this is a high profile case. While I have full confidence in my detectives, I want to ensure enhanced transparency. In this particular instance, I believe it's best to have FHP investigate," Sheriff Israel said.
