CASHIER ENSURES ROBBER GETS HIS HAND LITERALLY CAUGHT IN THE TILL

PIO Number: 18-7-5

Date: July 9, 2018

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying the armed robber who targeted a BP gas station in Pompano Beach the evening of June 15.

Just before 10 p.m., an unidentified man wearing a black sweater and black pants arrived at the BP station located at 501 E. Atlantic Blvd. He pretended to buy an item from behind the counter. When the cashier opened the register, the man pulled out a black handgun and attempted to reach into the register. The gutsy cashier quickly shut the drawer and slammed the armed robber's fingers in the till.

After his failed robbery attempt, the man fled into the passenger side of a dark gray Volkswagen Jetta with no tag which had been waiting.

He is described as a man with a thin build, about 6 feet tall, with long dreads in a black head wrap.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Robert Sokol at 954-321-4547. Reports can also be made anonymously to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at browardcrimestoppers.org. Anonymous tips that lead to an arrest are eligible for a reward of up to $3,000.
