Captain Raymond Kerr began his Fire Service career in 1982 as a Volunteer Firefighter with the Town of Pembroke Park. During his tenure as a volunteer, Kerr obtained his EMT Certification. On September 15, 1984, he was appointed as a full-time professional Firefighter/EMT with the Town of Pembroke Park. Kerr continued his education and received certifications as a Florida State Certified Fire Officer and all the certifications to qualify him as a Fire Code Official. He rose through the ranks from firefighter/EMT, driver/engineer, lieutenant, and then in February of 1992 he was promoted to captain. He also served as the town's fire code official and acting fire chief. In November 1999, the Town of Pembroke Park merged its fire rescue services with Broward County. Kerr served proudly as a member of Broward County Fire Rescue until his untimely passing on August 8, 2003. During Ray's illness a nurse asked him, "Did you use to be a fireman?" Kerr's response was "I am still a fireman".
