Steve Kinsey retired in 2013 as a 21 year veteran of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. During his tenure with FLPD, he served in road patrol, the Special Investigations Division, the R.I.C.O. unit, the DEA Task Force, Street Narcotics, Major Narcotics, HIDTA, and as the Tactical Bike Commander. He also served as a senior level manager from 2002 -2012, including the last four years as the Assistant Chief of the Operations Bureau. In January 2013, he joined the Broward Sheriff's Office as a Colonel, and in March 2013, he was named the agency's Undersheriff. Colonel Kinsey is a former associate professor with the University of Phoenix and has also taught leadership, firearms, and organized crime/narcotics in both law enforcement and academic settings. Colonel Kinsey holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology from Florida State University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Florida International University. He is also a graduate of the 234th session of the FBI National Academy, the 36th session of the F.B.I. National Executive Institute, the 69th session of the FBI LEEDS, and the P.E.R.F. Senior Management Institute for Police. Colonel Kinsey is also a member of the F.B.I.N.A.A., The FBI LEEDA, I.A.C.P., The National Sheriff’s Association, The Florida Sheriff’s Association, and The Broward County Chiefs of Police.
